What is the Skills Builder Academy ?
- a six-month programme
- ten sessions
- focus on building eight essential skills
- measure your own progress from your personal Benchmark and the Careers Explorer tool
- to prepare learners to improve their current situation in education or employment and;
- build the necessary skills to move to their next level in education, employment or life.
Who are Skills Builder?
Skills Builder are one of our many partner organisations.
- They are in touch with 87% of schools and colleges in the UK with 577 delivering skills builder programmes.
- Deaf & Hearing Trailblazers were one of their 222 Impact Organisations in 2022-23.
- They have 181 employer partners with 53 working towards 'excellence standards'.
- With different programmes in 23 different countries.
Deaf & Hearing Trailblazers are the only deaf-led training organisation registered with Skills Builder as an Impact organisation
Essential Skills Gap
These skills are important, but most people pass through education and working careers with significant gaps in their essential skills.
The essential skills enable flexibility and adaptability, support collaboration and provide a foundation for learning work-specific skills.
If your employees have gaps in their skills, then your teams will be less able to meet current and future business needs.

Skills Builder's own analysis suggests two factors are contributing to the high rate of essential skills gaps:
- An inconsistant approach to building these essential skills;
